How To Clean A Remington Fieldmaster 572

  1. I picked up a Remington 572 this month. I am at present in the process of looking for a scope and rings for it.

I am still on the fence betwixt the Leupold VX-Freedom Rimfire two-7x33 and the Vortex Crossfire Two 2-7x32 Rimfire. I have Tally rimfire rings on my CZ-455 holding a Leupold FX-I Rimfire 4x28mm and am happy with them. However, I am non certain which ones to order.

I would also appreciate comments and recommendations. I have both Leupold and Vortex scopes and I am happy with both. I take no real experience with the Nikon Scopes at all, merely the Prostaff P3 2-7x32 has covers over the adjustment turrets, which I like. I really oasis't considered the Burris Droptine Riflescope ii-7x35mm Model #200015. In that location is no real reason, If someone thinks it should be my go-to optic, I would love to hear.

As far every bit my shooting needs, this is just for plinking and the possible occasional small game. My just other .22lr rifles are the CZ-455 that I mentioned, an AR with a defended .22lr upper, and a Winchester 77-22 that my male parent purchased new in 1946 and I take no intention of making whatsoever modifications to it at all. As stated, I welcome thoughts and advise.

  2. If you haven't shot it yet, I'd do so before deciding on a scope. A friend brought one recently that was "jamming ". I ran 200 rounds of all types and it functioned fine. I'm guessing short stroking. (Small female and 2 small kids) most of my pump 22s have to exist shucked pretty firmly. I disassembled it (skilful pattern, in one case piece trigger pack, bolt etc) cleaned information technology and gave it back. Components are pretty low quality and accuracy was pretty bottomless specially for the price, although I do similar the design. If that i is the average I wouldn't scope 1. I have glenfield 60s, and win 62 knockoffs that shoot better. I've worked on a couple remingtons just they have been uncommon. This is the only one I've tested accurateness on. (Very informally so.... and the scope is pretty terrible)
As far as scopes I put the prostaff or leupold ahead of the crossfire two. But for a field grade rimfire all are fine scopes. I have a number of rifleman and vx scopes as well as unlike grades of Nikon. As far as vortex I just have crossfire 2 (decent) and a viper HD. Those two aren't even comparable to each other. For rings any 22 dovetail band with your scopes tube size will work

  3. So far I have shot information technology using the iron sights. It seems pretty decent. You mention brusque-stroking it, I know I was doing that a bit, which resulted in a few failures to fire.

I see in your moving picture that you have that one cleaved down. I don't look to be doing that often, just similar I don't alter the barrels on my CZ-455. It just seems to me that breaking it downwards afterward sighting it in is going to add another variable to the procedure.

  4. Aye I just had that motion picture on my phone and posted it to show the internals and mounts. That one (I think) was actually declining to catch the hammer upon cycling. So subsequently cycling you had a dead trigger. At least I think that was the problem with the one pictured. Either way that'southward non the ane that i mentioned in my reply. It had a modern variable scope on information technology. I've had a few come to me. The one pictured had an absolute piece of crap scope that wasnt fifty-fifty tight. I fired it for function, tightened and cleaned everything but never tried for accuracy. It's one of the easier to disassemble and repair designs of the past IMO. No springs trying to impale yous or anything. And the trigger associates being all one piece is a plus as well.

Every bit for short stroking, I collected pump and lever rimfires for years. Well-nigh pumps are very easy to short stroke. Especially if you are used to big 12 guage pumps. I've never short stroked a shotgun merely take washed then on most every pump 22. The 62 and 62 knockoffs are prone to it besides.

  5. If yous bought it used, make clean the heck out of it commencement. I have owned over 10 unlike 572s. They made a smoothen bore version that is somewhat uncommon.

I bring that up because a few of those 572s I have owned were so filthy that when I looked down the bore, it looked like a smooth diameter. Afterwards cleaning they all turned out to not be a smooth diameter.

These guns were and are shot a lot by the people who ain them. Me being ane of them.

  6. No, I purchased it new. Frankly, the used prices that I saw were all no less than $50 off the new toll. Even the best prices on GunBroker are within $100 of new. Aye, if y'all await at these numbers you lot will see that information technology was steeply discounted (but under $530).

Forty or more than years ago I bought a four 10 32 Monkey Ward from Nihon, Western Field scope for (IIRS) $22. I've used it on several rifles from xxx-06 to .22. Excellent clear glass and it holds naught. Last year I gave it to a woman friend who put it on her AR, she's killed coyotes using it.

I look for decent glass that holds zero. I don't care who's proper noun is on it or how much it costs.

  8. I always just used mine with irons.

Years ago my Father wanted a quiet .22 for getting rid of rabbits that were eating my Mother's flowers.

I set it up for him with a 1-4x telescopic, light and laser. I haven't changed it since I got information technology dorsum, used it for armadillos that tore up the yard, until we got chickens and they eat whatever the armadillos were afterward. Now it just sits in the dark with nothing to do.

I never thought of it as a long range rifle that needed much magnification simply it does run on ammunition that semiautos won't and allows faster follow up shots than most commodities deportment. The long butt and CB's or Quiets make less noise than a lot of pellet guns I have.

  9. I believe the Nikon and Leupold scopes yous are considering are much meliorate than the Crossfire. I practice have that particular Crossfire on a Marlin Model lx. It never gets used. The concluding time I used information technology was 2022 and I probably put xx rounds through it. If it starts getting used regularly I'll put a new scope on information technology.
